An interesting article that discusses the invention of the sampling synthesizer by two Australians, Kim Ryrie and Peter Vogel. The machine was called the Fairlight CMI, and featured on albums by such noted musicians as Jean Michel Jarre on 'Zoo Look', Kate Bush on 'Hounds of Love', Peter Gabriel and Laurie Anderson (This Is The Picture) on 'So'. Also Todd Rundgren used it on 'A Capella' in 1985, and Thomas Dolby used it as well.
