  • Minimoog Model D reissue

I just don't get it. Yes, I'm sure it's very clever what Moog have done and recreated perfectly a classic synth but when I see companies promoting it as "Minimoog Model D is a very inspiring instrument for the creative musician" then I must disagree. Sure, in 1971 it was probably just that and something amazing. Now, it's not. Even in the early 80s when I tried one I wasn't that impressed.

And the real kicker. It costs £3500! Who is going to spend that sort of money on a monophonic synth that is well past its sell-by date? I could kit out a whole studio of goodies for that and have far more creative fun. The Korg MS10 I owned in 1978 was more creative than a Minimoog.

And you have to feel a little sorry for those who have been sitting on their original ones for years and now seeing their price drop?

I doubt it, it'll probably be more like the vintage guitar market; just because newer (better) fender strats are out there, people still pay ridiculous money for vintage fifties models. In fact they'll be more collectable due to the ageing of the caps etc, more analogue sound. :D

As for the actual synth, yeah, I played on once in the 80s and found it sounded nice but very limited, I was much more interested in the guys DX...something. But I'm not a synth purist so...

Model D Reissue? I thought that was what DIVA was for:listening:. In all seriousness though, if you can afford it, it's certainly a useful & iconic instrument. I'm actually glad it's in that price-range because at that price I'm perfectly ok with never owning one . As alway I try to remind myself that even though I like shiny things & blinking lights, it's not about the gear...it's about all the other stuff.

Groupies, right? Nothing brings out the groupies like ambient.
Yeah, ambient groupies, kind of fade into the background unless you really look. And then they're still not there.
