I have playing in a lot of different styles and with a lot of different instruments, but never quite sure that I would want to stick with one thing forever.
I personally admire both approaches, but I think I'd like to develop a sound of my own. Not necessarily like playing the same tune over and over, but to have "something" that is identifiably "me" in every piece.
I have found my sound...right now. I look forward to that sound changing over time. I've always embraced changed in many different aspects of my life and music is no different. I'm hoping that by the time I get to my next album my sound will have changed just enough to differentiate it from my current soon-to-be released record. :D
I have a few "sounds" that I reuse as sonic anchors occasionally, but I don't think I have a "sound" that defines or identifies what I do. I guess I'm still in exploration mode. I'm quite happy for that to remain the status quo. My next 13 new tracks are very much mapped out anyway, and I've got 7 remixes of older material coming up. I do have some rough plans for adding different elements to future tracks, but I can't see that happening until the end of 2013 anyway. Time is the most precious commodity of all.
There's certainly sounds I like and I try to be aware of not overusing them (bit like those early Sigur Ros records all seemed to have that trademark 'ping' sound) but ultimately what feels good to me makes the mix. I guess I'm conscious of the idea of consistency in a collection (dare I say album?). Personally don't like albums that just sound like a random assortment of tracks, I like there to be a thread pulling them all together.
But as for an overall sound... no. Whatever I'm into at that moment.
since ive been playin guitar so long i have definitely created my own "style"(fer lack of a worse word) but since this genre, fer me, is mostly about experimentation, there still is a lotta room fer acquiescence...
nice thread. this forum is like a school...cept i enjoy it...
as I read this I heard David Lee Roth say "Gimme something to write on!"
OT: I keep finding other people's sounds. My personal conspiracy theory is they used a time machine to pre-steal ideas from me. Good or bad, I was primarily responsible for most things in the late 80's, early 90's in an alternate time line. I also invented french fries.

You invented french fries? Seriously?!? Well if you did I assume you would have planned ahead and been in the ketchup business...not wasting your time making music!!! :rotf:
I'm influenced by a lot of stuff, from metalcore to acoustic music and contemporary acid music. I try to combine all those things in my music and I think it's safe to say that, even though every track sounds different, I did find a way to incorporate the same atmosphere in every track. I certainly have a very moody and melancholic sound without sounding dark or overly sad.
